Run your race!

Lord Jesus Christ, thank you for Your Grace, Mercy and Peace. I give you praise and glory and for the opportunity to share the desires that you place in my heart. Appreciate everyone that reads this and I pray that You will speak to us and move our heart to do Your will always.

Don’t you realize that everyone who runs in a race runs to win, but only one runner gets the prize? Run like them, so that you can win. Everyone who enters an athletic contest goes into strict training. They do it to win a temporary crown, but we do it to win one that will be permanent. So I run—but not without a clear goal ahead of me. So I box—but not as if I were just shadow boxing. Rather, I toughen my body with punches and make it my slave so that I will not be disqualified after I have spread the Good News to others. 1 Corinthians 9:24-27GW

I was born and raised in Freetown, Sierra Leone, we had primary and secondary school, and I also took part in the 100m and 200m athletic runners. Reflecting back on those days, when you are on the track your focus is to compete and come first. You don’t focus on the what if’s but that you win the race coming first is the first choice.

This same concept applies to life, when I get up in the morning to do exercise it is not because I liked it, but it is the way I feel after the exercise that makes me get up the next day to do it again. Why do I exercise? I love the way I look and feel more than the exercise I do, which gives me a reason to. It is now a habit of over four years. Some days I skip and I don’t beat myself for it and those days are when I am away on holiday. I find that I do yoga instead and walk that makes it a form of exercise. I actually get my brain program and know that we are taking a break and no exercise because it is a holiday.

Why is it good to have habits? The brain likes habits, because they’re efficient. When you automate common actions, you free up mental resources for other tasks. I read this in an article about the psychology of forming a habit. Some of us give up after 4 or 5 days when the adrenaline is won out. I have learnt that when you don’t have any feeling that is when you should endure because endurance creates character, and character creates confidence. Romans 5:4 GW

The article is a copy from James Clear at HABITS ACADEMY:

On average, it takes more than 2 months before a new behavior becomes automatic — 66 days to be exact. And how long it takes a new habit to form can vary widely depending on the behavior, the person, and the circumstances. In Lally’s study, it took anywhere from 18 days to 254 days for people to form a new habit.

In other words, if you want to set your expectations appropriately, the truth is that it will probably take you anywhere from two months to eight months to build a new behavior into your life — not 21 days.

Interestingly, the researchers also found that “missing one opportunity to perform the behavior did not materially affect the habit formation process.” In other words, it doesn’t matter if you mess up every now and then. Building better habits is not an all-or-nothing process.

Habits, the Bible also said we should form a habit. Pray everyday and give thanks in all circumstances is also a good habit to form. Mediating on the word of God actually helps with what you are thinking. Think about your thinking! If you stay with God, your teachings will start to shift, and Instead, they find happiness in the Teaching of the Lord , and they think about it day and night. Psalms 1:2 CEV

Why do people stop exercising? I don’t know but you can find list of reasons why. The most common ones are lack of self discipline, daily distractions, not believing in yourself and giving up after one failure.

Habit is also a form of self discipline and For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline. 2 Timothy 1:7 NLT

When I get up in the morning to exercise, I start with Praise, Worship and Thanksgiving to the Almighty God for waking me up, giving me the strength and energy to do this exercise. I spend 30 mins or more as the spirit leads doing this and that sets me up and fires me up for the exercise. That spirit of laziness or any form of excuse walks right out of the door. The presence of God in your daily life gives you a reason to want to be someone of service in the Kingdom of God.

We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us but that comes from Grace, for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose. Philippians 2:13 NIV

It is because of Grace that we can grow in everything we do, God’s grace is free and it is a person Jesus who paid a price for it. Let the gift of undeserved grace and the understanding that come from our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ help you keep on growing. Praise Jesus now and forever! Amen. 2 Peter 3:18 CEV

Learn from your experiences, notice your habits. Figure out what you need, and take small steps towards it. Also never bit yourself up over small mistakes. Look at how you can improve yourself and make it a lifestyle.

It is a mindset change and set your mind on the things above and allow God to renew your mindset but you have to believe and want to change. This is not a one night or two weeks change but can become your lifestyle.

Mediate on His word daily and improve on your workout by worshiping and praising Him before the start of the workout.

Be kind to yourself, say to you what you will say to a friend. Above all we are NOT the same, what works for one might not work for you. So figure out what is best for you and run the race by staying on your lane that God has given you.

Change your workout to suit you best, but you have to start. Even if it 10 mins today and tomorrow 20mins and by the end of the week you have 30mins. Celebrate each success and praise Jesus that you can do that 10mins.

As we go about our day, focus on this that God gave you and I grace so we have hope for the future and in order to have that hope we must first “Stop imitating the ideals and opinions of the culture around you, but be inwardly transformed by the Holy Spirit through a total reformation of how you think. This will empower you to discern God’s will as you live a beautiful life, satisfying and perfect in his eyes.” Romans‬ ‭12:2‬ ‭TPT‬‬
